雾霾与呼吸病痛之间的关系，一直是备受大家关注的。而先进评估“长期暴露在PM2.5的环境下对公众健康所产生的影响”研究报告的出炉，明确指出了大气PM2.5污染导致全国31座省会城市或直辖市中25.7万人超额死亡，超额死亡率平均接近1‰。而在超额死亡的病例中，有相当一部分是肺癌。

在北京、天津等雾霾高发地区，肺癌的发生率明显高于全国平均水平。去年国际癌症研究机构（IARC）已把大气污染认定为致癌物，严格地讲，大气颗粒物，也就是所谓的PM2.5，是一种确认的人类致癌物。
